President and Taoiseach to attend Easter Rising commemoration

President Michael D Higgins and the Taoiseach Enda Kenny will today attend a ceremony outside the GPO on Dublin's O'Connell Street to mark the 96th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

Parades and other events will be held across the country today to commemorate the rising.

The Easter Rising was the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798.
