Govt has 'failed miserably' over Household Charge
The Government is being accused of "failing miserably" when it comes to convincing the public to pay the Household Charge.
There are just three days left before the deadline arrives to register and pay the €100 fee.
The Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes group is staging another national demonstration on Saturday.
Spokesperson, Ruth Coppinger, has said the public faces "unfair threats" of financial penalties.
Up to 1.6 million homeowners are liable to pay the charge but so far around 500,000 have done so.
By 4pm yesterday, just over 426,000 had been processed and registered, and another 55,000 were in the works.
However, the head of the Local Government Management Agency Paul McSweeney has said a considerable amount of online registrations was also expected overnight.
Mr McSweeney is confident that they will see a continuing surge in registrations in the coming hours.
