The HSE has been forced to cancel a number of elective operations as well as surgical and medical day procedures at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick today, due to overcrowding in the emergency department.

The HSE has been forced to cancel a number of elective operations as well as surgical and medical day procedures at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick today, due to overcrowding in the emergency department.

At one point yesterday there were 36 people lying on trolleys awaiting admission.
