Two due in court after fatal St Patrick's night assault in Cavan
Two men are due to appear before Cavan District Court today charged in connection with the death of Ciaran O'Connell.
The young man died after he was assulted at a house party on St Patrick's night.
Twenty-two-year-old Ciaran O'Connell had been out celebrating on St Patrick's night. He had attended a house party with his girlfriend and a group of friends in his girlfriend's rented house just outside Mullagh in Cavan.
A row broke out at around 3am and the young man was seriously injured following an assault.
He was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he passed away on Wednesday.
Gardaí launched a murder investiagtion.
Two men - both in their 20s - were arrested early yesterday morning at their homes in Kells in Meath and Mullagh in Cavan. They were held and questioned throughout the day yesterday at Bailieborough garda station.
They are due to appear before a special sitting of Cavan District Court later today charged in connection with Ciaran O'Connell's death.
