Man held over Antrim horse deaths

A man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after the death of two horses in Co Antrim.

The 43-year-old was taken into custody to face questions about the discovery of seven horses in a field in Ballyclare.

One was already dead when the animals were found on the land in Millbank Road on Monday and another was in such a bad condition it had to be put down.

The suspect was detained in the Newtownabbey area yesterday.

He was questioned on suspicion of cruelty to animals and failing to exercise care and supervision to prevent animals suffering unnecessarily.

He was released on police bail to return for further questioning at a future date.
