Man and woman held in connection with break-in at Shatter home

Two further arrests have been made over a break-in at Justice Minister Alan Shatter’s house.

A man aged 41 and a 40-year-old woman were detained in Dublin this morning in connection with the burglary on Sunday night.

Four arrests have been made with one man, Darragh Heavey, 25, of Moeran Road, Walkinstown, west Dublin, remanded in custody charged over the incident.

He appeared at Dun Laoghaire District Court yesterday on charges of trespass and intent to commit theft of two watches of unknown value belonging to Mr Shatter.

A 43-year-old man, the second person detained, was released without charge last night.

The latest suspects were being questioned under section four of the Criminal Justice Act at Blackrock Garda Station.

No one was at home in the minister’s house at the time of the incident, about 11.30pm on Sunday. Mr Shatter was abroad representing the Government at St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Australia and New Zealand.

The minister’s wife and daughter also travelled to Australia and while they attended some events they were not in the Government party.

Mr Shatter is due to leave Australia on Friday.
