Gardaí arrest two after body found in Kerry bogland

Gardaí in Co Kerry are expected to begin a murder inquiry today into the death of a man whose body was found in a bog in Ballylongford.

The remains were found yesterday afternoon and two men have been arrested.

Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster is due to carry out a post mortem today which Gardaí believe will confirm the man died a violent death.

His body was found during a planned search of bogland some five miles north of Listowel at around 2pm yesterday.

Two men aged 24 and 19 were arrested at a house in Ballyduff less than an hour later.

Gardaí believe the body is that of a 28-year-old Brazilian man missing from Gort in Co Galway since February 16.

A house in the Ballyduff area of North Kerry is among four sites that have been cordoned off for technical examination.

A car has also been impounded which Gardaí believe may have been used to bring the body of the dead man to the bog where it was dumped.
