Kerry Gardaí arrest man after body found in bogland

A man has been arrested after a body was discovered in a bog.

Gardaí said the remains of a man in his 20s were found during a planned search at Ballylongford in Listowel, Co Kerry.

It is believed to be a Brazilian national missing from Gort in Co Galway since the end of February.

A man, also in his 20s and from Brazil, is being questioned.

A Garda spokesman said other scenes are also been examined.

“The body remains at scene and the offices of the state pathologist and garda technical bureau have been notified,” he said.

“The scene is currently preserved and a number other scenes are also being examined.”

The man is being detained at Listowel garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

It is estimated up to 30% of the population in Gort is from Brazil, with many working in a meat processing plant before it closed.
