An Bord Pleanala refuses Slane bypass

An Bord Pleanala has refused planning permission for the Slane bypass in Co Meath.

The village, which is on the main Dublin to Derry route, has been the scene of numerous fatal and serious traffic collisions and will now face continuing high numbers of HGVS and traffic going through it.

The 3.5 kilometre bypass would have removed thousands of vehicles from the village every day.

Opponents expressed concern over the routes proximity to the buffer zone for Newgrange.

It is understood An Bord Pleanala had concerns about the impact on heritage by the proposed route.
