A Fine Gael councillor has lambasted trendy fashion chain Urban Outfitters for selling t-shirts depicting "the drunken Irish".

A Fine Gael councillor has lambasted trendy fashion chain Urban Outfitters for selling t-shirts depicting "the drunken Irish".

Dublin City Council member Naoise O Muiri called on the company to withdraw the T-shirts, one of which features the slogan "Kiss me I'm Irish - or Drunk - or Whatever".

Another depicts a drunken man vomiting, under the headline "IRISH YOGA".

Criticising Urban Outfitters for engaging in stereotyping, Councillor O Muiri said the negative imagery was damaging to Ireland's reputation.

"I'm not saying people shouldn't enjoy themselves, but I think somebody needs to draw a line somewhere, and I just think these T-shirts go too far," he said.
