No rift between Burton and Taoiseach, says Tánaiste
Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has today denied that Social Protection Minister Joan Burton is not at odds with Taoiseach Enda Kenny .
His comments came after Mr Kenny said in Brussels today that the issue of the Anglo Irish Bank promissory notes is completely separate from the EU Fiscal Treaty referendum.
Minister Burton had told the Financial Times that a debt reduction should be negotiated.
The Taoiseach and Finance Minister Michael Noonan today insisted that the Irish people will not be bribed by a cut in bank debt in return for a Yes vote.
This evening, Labour leader Eamon Gilmore was adamant that there is no rift between the Taoiseach and Minister Burton.
"No, he's not at odds with what she said," he stated.
"The Government has been in discussions with the Troika for some time with regard to re-engineering the promissory notes. Those discussions are separate to the whole issue of the treaty, we did not connect the discussions with the negotiations that were around the treaty."
