Vita Cortex workers reject 'derisory' redundancy offer

Workers at the Vita Cortex plant in Cork have rejected a new redundancy offer described by their union as "derisory".

SIPTU representatives met with officials from the employers' body IBEC in recent days in an effort to resolve the dispute over redundancy payments for the workers occupying the factory.

A group of workers has been occupying the plant for 76 days and they said that nothing less than the agreed outstanding redundancy of 0.9 weeks per year of service will make them leave.

A spokesman for the trade union said IBEC made a "derisory offer" of less than half that amount today.
