Joint wake planned for farmer in-laws in Carlow

A joint wake will be held in Carlow today for two farmers found dead earlier this week.

The bodies of 71-year-old George Rothwell and his brother-in-law Michael Jordan, who was 51, were discovered on their adjoining farms in Bagenalstown on Wednesday.

A dispute over a plot of land appears to have resulted in a murder-suicide.

Gardaí suspect that Michael Jordan when to Mr Rothwell's home yesterday armed with a shotgun, shooting him dead.

Mr Jordan apparently then set three farm outbuildings on fire, and took his own life in a barn.

Investigations are continuing into the men's deaths, and technical examinations of the scenes are set to continue today.
