Gas leak at Antrim hospital

Patients at Antrim Area Hospital have had to be moved from one part of the building to another today, after contractors working there hit a gas pipe, causing a leak.

Nobody has been injured in the alert, which began at 8am this morning and lasted for two hours.

Hospital Chief executive Sean Donaghy thanked hospital staff for acting quickly to minimise disruption and ensure patient safety.

Patients from the neighbouring A&E and renal units were evacuated, apart from intensive care and bed-ridden patients, who remained, attended by hospital staff.

The Fire Service set up a ground monitor to disperse the gas.

The leak was isolated and dealt with.
