Higgins to join inter-generational seminar today
President Michael D Higgins will join with a seminar later, aimed at exploring how drawing on the experiences of young and old people together could create a better society for all.
The 'Courting Hearts and Minds' event is bring run by Older and Bolder.
Director of the group, Patricia Conboy, said that it is wrong to assume the needs of individuals are totally different based on their age alone.
"Sometimes in discussions or national debates, for example around health insurance, we get the impression that the interests of older people and the interests of younger people are at odds with each other, that large numbers of older people are costing the health service a lot of money, and that's not good for other people in society," she said.
"Now, in fact, what we've experienced in Older and Bolder is that older people have never presented themselves to us as being separate from their families, or untouched by the challenges we all face at the moment."
