Garda car 'doing 95kph in 60kph zone', court hears

A trial has heard today that an unmarked patrol car driven by a detective garda was well over the speed limit just before the vehicle and a 4x4 were in collision on the M50 in Dublin.
Detective Garda Kevin Keys of Mountjoy garda station denies dangerous driving and unauthorised taking of the Ford Mondeo on February 6, 2010.
Prosecution witness Garda Anthony Kelly has given evidence that the Ford Mondeo, driven by Det Keys, was doing 95kph in a 60kph zone.
The guard from the traffic department also told Dublin District Court that analysis had shown defects in the car's ABS breaks which resulted in the wheels of the car locking.
He said there were tyre marks going across the road at the site of the M50 collision on the evening of February 6.
The trial has already heard that Gda Keys had spent that afternoon in a pub in Phibsboro watching a rugby match with off duty colleagues.
An emergency services worker at the scene has said it was obvious Keys had drink taken.
The trial will resume near the end of this month.
