CE scheme supervisors meet over Budget cuts

More than 500 Community Employment Scheme supervisors from across the country are meeting in Portlaoise this evening over cutbacks to the sector.

More than 500 Community Employment Scheme supervisors from across the country are meeting in Portlaoise this evening over cutbacks to the sector.

The Government signalled in the Budget that it intended to reduce participants' training and materials grants funding by 66%.

The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has today said that no scheme will be forced to close as a result of the Budget measures.

Today's event has been organised by SIPTU and IMPACT and Seamus Briscoe, Chairman of the SIPTU National Network Committee for CE supervisors, said that schemes will suffer as a result of cuts to funding.
