The Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly has said that the EU fiscal compact is a good move that will stop countries from running up high debts.

The issue is being discussed by the Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs today, after a group of TDs yesterday announced plans to petition President Michael D Higgins to ensure that the treaty is put to a referendum here.
