National Women's Council boss resigns after Government cuts funding
The head of the National Women's Council has resigned and hit out at what she has called the Government's "scant regard" for women's rights.
Former journalist Susan McKay had been at the head of the Women's Council since 2009.
This year, State funding to the NWCI was reduced by 35%.
Ms McKay resigned from the position last night after, a meeting with the Justice Minister Alan Shatter, who ruled out any change to the 35% cut.
The Irish Independent has reported that the former chief executive said the cuts made it impossible for her to do her job properly.
