Gardaí are warning motorists to drive with extra care this morning as overnight frost and wintry showers have made driving conditions treacherous.

Snow showers have already hit parts Mayo, with visibility said to be very poor along the N5.

The south and north east of the country has also been hit.

Arwen Foley of AA Roadwatch said that flooding is also making driving conditions difficult in parts of Dublin.

"There was a bit of spot flooding on the Whitestown Road (R128) between Rush and Lusk, and black ice is reported around Rathfarnham, Terenure, Rathgar and Rathmines," she said.
