Three men accused of gang-raping pregnant woman

A pregnant woman was raped by three men and urinated on in her Monaghan home after a row about missing vodka, it has been alleged at the Central Criminal Court.

She told the court that the three men took turns raping her while laughing after vodka was poured over her face. She also alleged that her boyfriend was badly beaten and knocked unconscious prior to this.

The first named accused (aged 28), who also lived in the house at the time, is alleged to have falsely imprisoned the woman, orally, vaginally and anally raped her and assaulted her and her partner causing them harm.

The second accused (aged 20) is accused of assaulting the couple, causing them harm, falsely imprisoning the woman and raping her vaginally and orally.

The third accused (aged 20) is accused of vaginally raping her.

The alleged attacks took place between November 15 and November 19, 2010. All three accused have pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The woman told prosecuting counsel, Mr Conor Devally SC, that she moved with her partner to a house where one of the accused was living. She said she and her boyfriend were in their bedroom when two of the accused entered and confronted them about missing vodka.

She said they hit her partner in the face several times before taking him downstairs.

She said they then put her in a wardrobe, pulled a bed in front of it and left her there.

She said she couldn’t get out and doesn’t know how long she was there before two of the accused men returned and dragged her by the hair to a downstairs room.

She said they undressed her and one poured vodka over her face before she was held down by one man and raped vaginally and anally by another. She said she begged them to stop.

When the first man finished she said he told her he was going to urinate on her face, which he later did, she alleges. She said he also hit her a few times in the face.

She said a second accused then started to rape her vaginally and orally. She said he was followed by a third man who raped her as the others laughed.

The woman told Mr Devally that she was three months' pregnant at the time. She said she went upstairs where she found her partner, who called the gardaí.

She said in a previous argument over the vodka, one of the accused told her partner: “We are going to kill you or your woman.”

She said her boyfriend was assaulted and knocked unconscious and she was pushed to the ground.

The trial continues before Mr Justice Barry White and a jury of seven men and five women.
