An Irish man has died in a drowning accident in Western Australia.

An Irish man has died in a drowning accident in Western Australia.

The 28-year-old is thought to have been caught in a tidal rip at Scarborough beach in Perth.

He was taken from the water by lifeguards who attempted to resuscitate him before he was transferred to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the man's family.
