Gardaí investigate discovery of antique artillery shells

The Army Bomb Disposal team were called to a beach in Co. Kerry this afternoon where a number of old artillery shells were found.

The Army Bomb Disposal team were called to a beach in Co. Kerry this afternoon where a number of old artillery shells were found.

Gardaí made the discovery on Rossbeigh Beach, around 25 kilometres west of Killarney.

The army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion and the scene was declared safe at 2pm.

The shells appeared to date from the early part of the last century.
