Group opposing Household Charge to meet today
Opponents of the controversial €100 Household Charge are due to hold a meeting in Dublin this afternoon.
Campaigners against the household and water taxes will meet in Teacher's Club, Parnell Square, Dublin to discuss ways to step-up the protest.
Socialist Party Councillor Ruth Coppinger says the group hopes to derail the charge by encouraging up to a million people to refuse to pay it.
"If, for example, a million people didn’t register for this tax by the middle of March, we would be in an enormously strong position to go all the way," she said.
"It would make the threats, the fines, and the implementation of the tax completely unworkable."
