Gilmore: Govt considering task force for Ulster Bank job losses
The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has said the Government will consider setting up a task force to help those losing their jobs at Ulster Bank.
However, Mr Gilmore said the Government's first priority is job creation, regardless of what sector loses the jobs.
Ulster Bank announced 950 redundancies yesterday, with 600 of those in the Republic of Ireland.
Union representatives are meeting with management today to begin negotiations on the redundancies.
The Irish Bank Officials Association earlier called on the Government to establish a special task force to help the workers involved and to help prevent any future job losses in the industry.
