Dáil protest planned in support of Vita Cortex workers

A Dáil protest in support of workers at Vita Cortex is planned for later today.

Thirty-two workers at the foam packaging plant in Cork have been staging a sit-in since the middle of last month.

The row with management centres on redundancy payments since the firm closed.

The company has insisted it cannot afford to pay the redundancies as the monies are held in an account frozen by NAMA.

Talks between the sides are set for the Labour Relations Commission next week.

Today's protest at Leinster House, which begins at 1pm, has been organised by SIPTU, is being supported by ICTU and other trade unions including Unite, the TEEU and Mandate.

The Cork Council of Trade Unions is also organising a protest in support of the workers outside the Vita Cortex factory on Saturday.
