Cat ad causes a stink

A firm has been ordered by a New York judge to stop screening a cat litter TV commercial which unfairly seeks supremacy over a competitor.

A firm has been ordered by a New York judge to stop screening a cat litter TV commercial which unfairly seeks supremacy over a competitor.

The Clorox Pet Products ad was aimed at Church & Dwight’s Arm & Hammer brands of cat litter. It claimed a smell test involving a jar proves Clorox’s Fresh Step cat litter is superior.

However, the judge found it “highly implausible” that 11 panellists would “stick their noses in jars of excrement and report 44 independent times that they smelled nothing unpleasant”.

He found the claims “literally false”. Clorox said it was disappointed in the ruling and said the ad was truthful.
