Union to pay Vita Cortex protestors a 'solidarity visit'

Thirty-two former workers staging a sit-in at the Vita-Cortex plant in County Cork are waiting to hear if their former employers will meet with them at the Labour Relations Commission to discuss redundancy terms.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union will pay them a "solidarity visit" today.

Enterprise and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton has called on both parties to work on resolving their dispute.

Minister Bruton has asked the LRC to be on stand-by to assist, but said the matter of redundancy payments is one for the Department of Social Protection.

Eamon Devoy, the General Secretary of the TEEU, said his union supports the workers, and their union SIPTU.
