Two arrested following post office robbery in Waterford
Two men have been arrested following an armed robbery at a post office in Lismore, Co Waterford this morning.
Two men armed with a firearm and a hammer entered the post office at around 10am this morning and threatened staff before making off with a 'cash bag'.
Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were subsequently arrested when gardaí stopped a car in the Dungarvan area. They are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act at Dungarvan Garda Station.
At this stage of the investigation is believed the bag taken contained documents only. There are no reported injuries.
In an earlier incident, two men armed with knives held up the post office in Avoca, Co Wicklow.
Gardaí said the pair threatened staff before escaping on foot with about €2,000 in cash.
The robbery happened just after the post office opened at 9am and no-one was injured.
In the third raid, also in Co Wicklow, a man attempted to hold up the post office in Arklow.
The incident occurred at around lunchtime.
It is understood the man fled the scene after spotting gardaí nearby.
