Protesting Cork workers celebrate Christmas Mass
Christmas Mass has been held at the Vita Cortex plant in Cork where 32 workers are continuing their protest throughout the festive period.
The sit-in protest began after staff at the foam and packaging plant were told last week they were losing their jobs but would not receive redundancy payments.
The money for the redundancies has been frozen in the accounts of a sister company controlled by NAMA, which says the money must be used to pay the parent company’s multimillion-euro debts.
Workers described as "insulting" a payment offer of €1,500 for each employee which was made yesterday.
SIPTU, which represents the workers, has warned it will mobilise its members in the New Year in order to secure an adequate settlement.
