MEAS: Remember to drink sensibly this Christmas

The Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society (MEAS) campaign is reminding people to drink sensibly today - and over the rest of the Christmas period.

And MEAS says if you are having people over for dinner - you can play a part in making sure they drink responsibly too.

Chief Executive Fionnuala Sheehan said Irish people feel the need to be extra generous with our drink portions - but that's not always a good thing.

"We tend to be very 'flathuil' or very generous when we are pouring drink, when we are the host in our house," she said.

"We are afraid that we might be seen as a bit of a cheapsskate if we pour a drink that's too small.

"But you're really not doing your guets any favours because you are not helping them to keep an eye on how much they are drinking."

MEAS was established in 2002 by the alcohol manufacturers, distributors and licensed trade associations in Ireland as an independent not for profit company.
