Higgins to have knee op in Galway next week

President Michael D Higgins will be admitted to hospital next week, for an operation on his knee.

The newly elected Head of State is to undergo knee repair surgery on Tuesday, the procedure is related to a previous injury.

President Higgins will be treated at the Bon Secours Hospital in Galway.

After his operation, he will will return to the Áras where he will recover while spending time with his family over Christmas.
