Man jailed for manslaughter of father-to-be
A 23-year-old Dublin man has been jailed for seven years for fatally stabbing a father-to-be, in front of his heavily pregnant girlfriend.
Daniel McCormack of Kenure Park, Rush was cleared by a jury of murder, but convicted of the manslaughter of James Joyce near his home at St Cronan’s Close, Swords.
McCormack stabbed the man three times in front of his pregnant partner Alison Colgan.
The accused was armed with knives because another man, Mick Monaghan, had travelled from Meath to beat him, but could not find him.
Mr Justice Paul Carney said the vengeful intentions of Mr Monaghan towards the accused did not have a bearing on his responsibility for the killing which he found to be among the gravest of knife crimes.
