Conference to discuss childhood obesity
A major conference is being held in Farmleigh, Co. Dublin, today to discuss the problem of childhood obesity.
Yesterday it emerged that one in four three-year-olds here is overweight or obese.
Today's event is organised by Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin.
"It's clear now that prevention of obesity is the key, because once you are obese there is no way back," said Professor Donal O'Shea, director of the weight management service in St Vincent's and St Colmcille's Hospitals.
"Yesterday's report, Growing Up in Ireland… is shocking and it makes today's conference all the more timely."
