Elderly woman dies after car crash in Roscommon

A 65-year-old woman has died following a collision in County Roscommon earlier.

She was a passenger in a car that hit a ditch on the Westport to Longford Road at Carskeagh at a quarter past four this afternoon.

The driver of the car, a 53-year-old man, is being treated in Castlebar General Hospital for his injuries.

No other vehicle was involved, and gardaí in Castlerea are asking witnesses to contact them.

The road was closed for a forensic examination but has now re-opened.
