UNITE seeks Aviva meeting on network closure

The UNITE trade union is to seek an urgent meeting with the new chief executive of Aviva Ireland after a document outlining the closure of the entire Aviva network was leaked into the public domain.

RTE reported that the insurance company plans to shut down its entire network of 26 irish branches by June of next year.

The union - which represents around 1,400 workers at the company - said management previously said it would be January before details were finalised but the leaked document suggests otherwise.

Last month, Aviva announced that around 950 staff would be made redundant with a further 300 facing outsourcing of their jobs.

UNITE is now calling on the new chief executive of Aviva Ireland Sean Egan for clarity on the measures outlined in the document.
