The Mayor of Naas Darren Scully has announced that he will stand down from his post after he said he would no longer represent Black Africans in Naas because he found their representations to him to be "aggressive".

A second complaint has been made to Gardaí on foot of the comments by the Mayor of Naas Darren Scully.

It has been lodged by a local woman who is a mother to children adopted from Africa.

Labour TD Aodhán O'Riordán had earlier reported the matter to gardaí under the Incitement to Hatred Act.

Members of Naas Town Council are meeting this evening to discuss the comments.

Fine Gael distanced itself from the comments, saying they do not represent the views of the party.
