Govt complains to EC after VAT leak

The Government has complained to the European Commission after confidential details about an increase in the Irish VAT rate were disclosed at a German parliamentary meeting.

The Bundestag finance committee was presented with a document saying that next month's Budget will contain a 2% hike in VAT.

Speaking in Belfast last night, Taoiseach Enda Kenny refused to be drawn on any decisions the Government has made ahead of the Budget on December 6.

He repeated also that a VAT hike was not set in stone.

"No decisions have been made by the Government in regard to the details of this Budget," he said.
