Civil servant to receive €114,000 pension at 53

The Secretary General of the Department of Education and Skills will receive an annual pension of €114,000 year when she retires aged 53 shortly, it was revealed today.

The Secretary General of the Department of Education and Skills will receive an annual pension of €114,000 year when she retires aged 53 shortly, it was revealed today.

The Irish Times reported that Brigid McManus will also receive a lump-sum payment of €204,000.

McManus has agreed to waive an additional severance of €127,000, amid controversy regarding the high level of civil servant pension benefits.

A few years ago, before reforms, a Secretary General retiring would have earned a €500,000 severance payment.
