Man's body recovered from River Lee

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Lee in Cork city, it was revealed this evening.

A Naval Service Dive Team using specialist sonar equipment made the find.

The Naval Service deployed the team in response to a request from the gardaí.

"The team arrived on scene at 4pm yesterday evening and commenced diving operations in the River Lee in the vicinity of the Lee Fields," a statement said.

"The body of a male was recovered at approximately 3.50pm."

His remains have been brought to Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí said foul play is not suspected.
