Two officers have been sent to prison, while a third received a suspended sentence.

Garda Daniel Hickey was sentenced to three years with 18 months suspended for assault causing harm to Anthony Holness on January 29, 2010.

Sgt Martha McEnery received a four-month suspended sentence for the lesser charge of assaulting Mr Holness on New St in Waterford on the same date.

A third officer garda John Burke has been sentenced to two years with 12 months suspended for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

All three officers who were stationed at Waterford garda station in Ballybricken at the time were convicted following a trial last July and August.
