Govt expected to cut growth forecast

The Government is expected to announce later that it is slashing growth prospects for next year by as much as 1% owing to the continuing global crisis.

In its medium-term economic review to be revealed this afternoon, the coalition is also expected to reveal the extent of tax hikes and spending cuts necessary over the next three years to eliminate the budget deficit.
