Gardaí and PSNI to honour floods victim Ciaran Jones
Gardaí and members of the PSNI are set to honour a fellow officer killed in floods in Co Wicklow.
Garda Ciaran Jones, 24, was swept away while trying to warn motorists during floods last Monday night.
More than 200 gardaí and PSNI officers will wear black ribbons in memory of their colleague when they take part in the Dublin marathon today.
The police will start together at the front of the marathon, as they have for the past three years.
They also wish to pay tribute to Filipino woman Celia Ferrer de Jesus, the hospice nurse who died when her basement flat in Dublin flooded.
The joint police team hope to raise thousands for good causes.
The funeral mass of Ciaran Jones took place in Manor Kilbride in Wicklow on Friday.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Minister for Justice Alan Shatter and Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan were among the hundreds at St Brigid’s church.
Friends of Celia Ferrer de Jesus, a married mother-of-one, held a service in her memory in Dublin.
