Dana last candidate to concede

Dana has become the last of the six unsuccessful presidential candidates to concede defeat to Michael D Higgins.

“Dana Rosemary Scallon wishes to congratulate Mr Michael D Higgins on his election as Uachtaran na hÉireann," a statement said.

"His wife Sabina and his family are a great support to him and I hope that their time is Aras an Uachtaráin will be happy and successful.

"I’m sure the supporters in Galway are particularly proud of him at this time.
