An Englishman who "struck it lucky" when he stole a gun safe containing €17,000 worth of gold jewellery after breaking into a Co Wicklow house has been jailed for 18 months.

An Englishman who "struck it lucky" when he stole a gun safe containing €17,000 worth of gold jewellery after breaking into a Co Wicklow house has been jailed for 18 months.

William Moorehouse, aged 24, later directed gardai to an isolated location near Brittas Bay where he had hidden a shotgun and a hunting gun that had also been in the safe.
