AA: 11% of cars imported from UK 'clocked'
A study by the Automobile Association has revealed that 11% of second hand cars imported from the UK have had their mileage clocked.
The analysis is based on a survey of 5,430 registration numbers and vehicle records for cars imported from the UK in 2011.
Some 33,000 cars were imported from there last year and 23,000 to the end of September this year.
The AA says its findings suggest more than one in 10 of those cars has a false mileage.
“Some Irish consumers are being taken for a ride as Ireland is seen as a dumping ground,” said Conor Faughnan of the AA.
“If you are planning to bring in a car from Northern Ireland or Great Britain make sure that you check its history.”
