Childers: Gallagher is 'wrong man' for presidency

The daughter of the former president Erskine Childers has hit out at the Independent presidential candidate Sean Gallagher.

The Labour MEP Nessa Childers has said the stories that have emerged about Mr Gallagher over the last couple of weeks raise too many questions about his behavior.

She said her experience as a president's daughter gives her an insight into what is required of the person to properly fulfill the position.

Ms Childers said: "I have first-hand knowledge of what it takes to be President and it hasn't changed over all those years.

"I would have said a few weeks ago that Sean Gallagher was not right enough as a presidential candidate.

"I would say now that he is the wrong person to be President. I really feel now that Sean Gallagher is the wrong man and I do not want him to be elected and I think that we must take this election very seriously from that point of view."
