Fianna Fáil confirms €5k cheque from Morgan Fuels

Fianna Fáil has said this afternoon that it received a cheque for €5,000 from Mr Hugh Morgan of Morgan Fuels Ireland Ltd.

The cheque was dated June 26, 2008.

The cheque was lodged to the Fianna Fáil account on June 30, 2008, before the fundraising dinner which was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dundalk on July 1, 2008.

Mr Morgan attended that fundraiser.

In its statement, Fianna Fáil said: "This donation acknowledged by letter from our then Financial Controller. An official Fianna Fáil receipt was included with this letter."

It comes after last night's final TV presidential debate was dominated by claims that Seán Gallagher may have taken the money for Fianna Fáil.
