Surveyors call for tougher construction laws
Tougher laws are needed to ensure construction projects in Ireland meet required standards, according to the Society of Chartered Surveyors.
The society is holding its annual conference today.
The group has said Ireland should follow the example of the UK and make sure approved independent inspectors work with developers before, during and after construction to check that building regulations are being complied with.
Spokesperson John Curtin said the country also needs bigger penalties for people who break the rules.
