Fears over hundreds of Aviva jobs

Fears are growing today over hundred of jobs at insurance giant Aviva as management meet staff over the future of its Irish operations.

More than 800 redundancies are expected and another 300 posts outsourced as the company reveals plans to move its European HQ from Dublin to London.

The Unite trade union, which represents 1,300 of the 2,000-strong workforce in Dublin, Cork and Galway, will also meet affected staff this morning.

Aviva recently confirmed it was carrying out a business review, understood to be linked to the European HQ move and a drop in business in Ireland.

Staff have privately raised concerns for several months of massive redundancies amid repeated speculation the business was to be dramatically reduced.

The jobs fears come weeks after telecoms giant TalkTalk shut its Waterford operation with the loss of 575 workers.
